The Virtuoso Strings Orchestra is pleased to present a homecoming concert to celebrate our successful 2018 South Island Tour! Join us for an energetic, heart-warming and inspiring night featuring everything from Beethoven to the Beatles... Gypsy fiddle tunes to the Elgar Cello concerto. The concert will be family-friendly. The Concert is at Aotea College on Saturday the 28th of July at 7pm. FREE admission, but donations to the Virtuoso Strings Charitable Trust are gratefully accepted. The NZCT Chamber Music Contest is the longest running youth music competition in New Zealand and is the only nationwide chamber music competition for young secondary school musicians and composers in the country. In the last movement of Scheherazade, Rimsky-Korsakov notches up the tension until it seems it can go no further. The resolution is completely unexpected and yet totally satisfying. For the audience, it’s thrilling. But it’s very carefully calculated. Richard Gill will explain the fascinating way Rimsky-Korsakov does it.
