The Positive Power of Musical Play – A Workshop with Julie Wylie: Saturday 5 May, 2pm – 4pm, Christchurch School of Music ???
Julie is delighted to present a practical workshop on “The Positive Power of Musical Play”, in association with Music Education Canterbury (see workshop outline below for further information).
This workshop is designed to help parents, teachers and therapists develop understanding of how music can be used in very specific ways to arouse or calm and regulate the brain. Many of our children in schools or Early Childhood Centres are experiencing anxiety and stress. Musical play activates every part of the brain and promotes healthy brain growth and development.
The keys to a child’s learning are:
1 Being calm and alert (controlled by lower brain)
2 Being in happy engagement with people who respect and love them (controlled by mid brain)
3 Forming memories (including language) through experiencing the world(controlled by mid-brain and cortex). Musical activities offer children multiple opportunities to learn through supporting all three of the above. Discover enjoyable ways of how to interact musically, use the elements of music so that these become a natural part of the child’s own play, use instructional songs in daily routines, match children’s energy levels and arouse or calm children through musical play at home, in the classroom or pre-school environment.
Venue: Christchurch School of Music (CSM), Ferry Road, beside Cathedral College.
We look forward to seeing you! Look out for the Julie Wylie Musical Play rainbow flag.
Entry is by koha (suggested donation $15 – $20, but whatever your budget allows is absolutely fine, as we want the workshop to be accessible to all).
