SUMMARY:Cancelled - Kodály Aotearoa Professional Development
DESCRIPTION:Cancelled due to Covid’19 restrictions\n\nFor further information about the following events\, please contact Megan Flint – meganjude@xtra.co.nz\nKodály Music Education are working in conjunction with Project Prima Volta and the Cuskelly College of Music to run these courses in New Zealand.\nFor those of you who are looking at completing Primary 2\, Primary 3 and Secondary 2 courses (for credit or for audit) the dates are as follows:\n\n\nFriday 11 September and Saturday 12 September (Part 1 – to be held in Christchurch)\nfollowed by 2-10 October (Part 2 – to be held in Hawkes Bay).\n\n\nWe are implementing a new course structure in 2020 which Dr James Cuskelly and I believe will be a very successful model for New Zealand moving forward.  In Part 1 (2 days) you will come together\, go through all of the cultural materials repertoire\, be presented with the conducting materials\, choir materials and begin musicianship.  You will also make a start on the first lesson plans so that you are ready to begin practicum early in Part 2 of the course. This will give you a head start for preparing materials (e.g. sing and plays\, ensembles\, conducting etc) prior to the October course.  The October course will have four teaching days then one day off followed by another four teaching days – a total of nine days.\n\nIf you are enrolling for Primary 3 for credit (not audit)\, please remember that you will need to have your song file completed and ready for assessment from 2 October. More information to come in 2020.\n\nI am very excited that the Primary 3 course will be offered for the first in New Zealand! Thank you very much to those eligible participants who have been waiting a number of years for this to happen.\n\nWe will also be running a Primary 1 course in 2020 so if you have colleagues who you are keen to encourage\, the dates for that course are below.  There are two locations for Part 1 for those interested in Primary 1.\n\n\nSunday 13 / Monday 14 September Christchurch.  This two-day course will be offered as taster-days for those keen to find out more.  Those who are interested in continuing on to complete an accredited course would then also attend the 2-10 October course in Hawkes Bay.\nSaturday 6 June and Sunday 7 June – Auckland. This two-day course will be offered as taster-days for those keen to find out more.  Those who are interested in continuing on to complete an accredited course would then also attend the 2-10 October course in Hawkes Bay.

SUMMARY:Wānanga Puoro - Teachers’ Music PD workshops
DESCRIPTION:Music and dance hold great potential for learning\, expression and empowerment for our tamariki\, but often teachers feel they don’t have the skills\, methods or time to teach these subjects. \nAs Music Specialist kaiako at Te Ara Whānui Kura Kaupapa Māori for the past 4 years\, I have experienced wonderful success in enabling ākonga to explore their creativity through the arts\, resulting in powerful learning and personal growth. \nCome and join me for a fun\, hands-on PD workshop to learn activities and ideas that will help you to bring more music and movement into your classroom\, along with te reo & tikanga Māori. Music is for everybody in this nurturing\, child-centred approach\, so whether you’re a rock goddess or a bit nervous about the idea of trying it\, you will find this wānanga very worthwhile. \n\nSat 15th August 10am – 1pm at Westreap for ECE (ages 3-5) to Year 2\nSat 22nd August 10am – 1pm at Westreap for Years 3-8\nSat 29th August 10am – 1pm at Buller Reap for ECE (ages 3-5) to Year 2\nSat 12th September 10am – 1pm at Buller Reap for Years 3-8\n\nCost: Participation in the workshops is free for members of MENZA (Music Education NZ Aotearoa)\, and only $30 for non-members\, which also gives you the benefits of a year’s membership. Alternatively\, if your school joins MENZA for just $30 (in total)\, all staff can attend for free! \nPlease register via this link: \nFeedback from previous workshops: \nI had fun with the activities you had chosen to do with us. Thanks for showing me (who feels I’m not musically inclined at all!!) that it need not be scary or hard to include in my daily timetable. \nApi Nathan\, AP\, Otari School. \nAbsolutely enjoyed myself\, time well spent. Will definitely be recommending your wānanga to others.    Raureka Gray\, TKKM o Te Rito \nI enjoyed everything! I am not usually coordinated but the delivery and simple yet effective kēmu were easy and enjoyable enough to join in. I can see how these tools can be used within my own classroom and will be beneficial for all tamariki        Sharron Handscomb\, Koraunui School \nMīharo e te tohunga!! Ngā mihi nui Makaira! I learnt lots of different ways to incorporate our taonga into our programmes – papaki ā tinana\, ngā kupu hou me ērā mea. Thought straight away of our tamariki who would possibly benefit from this. Will implement and use some of these amazing ideas āpōpō.        Teresa Kenny\, Koraunui School \nI would like to invite Makaira back to present the workshop to all kaiako. Cordry Huata\, Tumuaki\, Te KKM o Ngāti Kahungunu ki Heretaunga \nI am terrible with puoro\, but this wānanga was fantastic. Kaihou\, TKKM o Te Whare Tapere o Tākitimu \nI would like him to take our Kōhanga Reo staff through this wānanga. Huia\, Te Kōhanga Reo o Te Whare Tapere o Tākitimu \n\nFor more inspiration\, check out this UNICEF article\, the Te Ara Whānui sound garden\, or the Hā Ora resource in Te Rito Toi.\n\nNgā mihi mahana\, nā\n \nMakaira Waugh \nTe Atiawa
