SUMMARY:KBB Music Fesival
DESCRIPTION:The Auckland Secondary School’s Music Festival Trust is excited to announce the KBB 2020 Band & Orchestra Showcase. We are offering our participating schools – and any other schools who would like to come on board – a chance to present some of their planned 2020 repertoire to a wider audience. Owing to the hugely decreased time for preparation and difficulties faced by different schools\, the performances will not be formally adjudicated. However\, this change in format also presents us with a unique opportunity – we would like to get to know you\, the staff and students of our KBBMF ensembles\, better than ever before. \nOur Facebook traffic suggests that one of the main reasons that young people come to our page is for links to past photography and videos. Using that as a starting point\, we’ve come up with a format for a KBB Music Festival YouTube channel which will showcase the work being done in schools\, to an audience both with the Auckland region and beyond. \nThe KBB 2020 Band & Orchestra Showcase invites participants to submit: \nApproximately 10 minutes of video footage of your band/orchestra performing some of their 2020 repertoire. The festival may be able to coordinate assistance for this process if needed. \nA three-minute\, behind-the-scenes video revealing the ‘unique character’ of your ensemble; the sort of thing that the audience at KBBMF never gets to see. \nThese videos will be compiled and uploaded to the newly create KBB Music Festival YouTube channel. \nWe would like entrants to register their intention to participate in the online festival by Wednesday July 1st\, to give us time to prepare. \nVideos would need to be uploaded to the KBB Music Festival Website by Friday 21st August to be eligible for awards. There is no competitive aspect to this year’s musical performances\, but our sponsors have offered to select their picks of the best/funniest/most effective behind-the-scenes videos and offer some fun prizes. \nIdeally groups would submit videos in both categories. We will perform some minimal processing on the footage to achieve some consistency by attaching identifying festival logos/title screens etc. Depending on the situation faced by your department\, you may find that it is only realistic to bring off one of these video projects\, not both. You are still welcome to submit one project and not the other. \nSchools with multiple ensembles are of course welcome to submit multiple videos. \nThere will be NO FEE for involvement in the KBB Music Festival during 2020. \n  \nRegistration and details at: \nhttps://www.kbbmusicfestival.co.nz/

DESCRIPTION:VENUE: University of Auckland Epsom Campus\, 74 Epsom Ave\, Auckland\nGate 3 B Block (first building on the right) \nThis event includes two x 105 minute workshops: \nSound and symbol – connecting music and language\nA child’s early years offer opportunities to develop a musical identity and discover the “musical self”. The natural connection between words\, images and sounds found in poetry and books provides useful starting points for music-making at all levels. This workshop explores a range of music possibilities including rhythmic layering\, adding background music\, developing musical themes to represent characters\, and vocal exploration and songs to represent key ideas in stories and poems. \nDancing Music to life\nEvery story has a dance in it ! This workshop will find those dance story possibilities and get your words moving. Dance has its own language and the more familiar we are with it\, the more naturally the links to literacy come to mind. From word warm ups to dancing stories\, this workshop will not only get you thinking. It will also be a lot of fun ! \nPRESENTERS: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRobyn Trinick\nRobyn is an expert and highly experienced teacher and presenter who works in teacher education at the University of Auckland. She is currently a national Kaiarahi for the current Ministry of Education Networks of Expertise venture. One of Robyn’s passions and her Masters degree focus has been the connection between music and language learning. For many years she has also made access to Maori language and culture an inspiring part of her teaching. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClare Battersby\nClare is a vibrant\, creative and experienced dance teacher and presenter both here and overseas. She will encourage you in a safe\, inclusive environment to spread your wings and weave the arts into all areas of children’s learning. They are keen to share the process they used with others with the thought that it would enable others to apply this process in other contexts. \nPRESENTERS: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Robyn Trinick  \nRobyn is an expert and highly experienced teacher and presenter who works in teacher education at the University of Auckland.
