DESCRIPTION:For: ECE\, Primary / Intermediate\nWhere: Christchurch School of Music\, Christchurch\nFee:Free for MENZA members\, first year teachers and those currently enrolled in an education degree\, or $30 for non-members.\n Register here today \nBased on a successfully implemented programme in USA schools this workshop will show non-musically trained early childhood and primary classroom teachers how to use easy to play musical instruments to support academic instruction in literacy\, maths\, science\, social studies and Te Reo. With the knowledge and training gained through Arts Based Academics teachers will reinvigorate their craft through creating their own project based learning models that will promote independent and creative approaches\, differentiated learning\, positive behavior\, and teamwork.  \nBeth Cohen taught for over 25 years in the New York City area (USA) public schools.  Her company Cohen Arts & Education has provided Professional Development workshops\, classroom support and educational consulting to public\, private and charter schools as well as national charter school companies since 1998. Beth is founder and Music Director of the USA non-profit Youth Music Group which has a mission to provide opportunities in music to young people.  She has conducted professionally both in the USA (Stevens Orchestra\, New American Chamber Orchestra\, Manhattan Philharmonic) and in New Zealand (Garden City Orchestra\, Auckland Victorious March Band\, Resonance Orchestra\, Auckland Philharmonia Outreach) She is an experienced teacher of conducting to teachers\, school and community conductors. \n

ENSEMBLE   (UP TO 20 PLAYERS\, DIRECTED)\n           May be single instrument eg Flute Ensemble or mixed \n           $10 per player ($150 max) \n3. CHAMBER GROUP  (NOT DIRECTED\, NO PIANO)\n$10 per player \nAPPLICATIONS CLOSE  FRIDAY 5 JULY (End of Term 2)\nNOTES: \n\nConcert bands have 30 min including on/off plus 30 min rehearsal time prior to performance.\nEnsembles have 20 min on/off and 20 min rehearsal time prior to performance\nChamber groups have 12 min time plus prior rehearsal slot.\nThe adjudicated sessions will take place on the Saturday afternoon for all categories.\nThe Sunday session will be a gala concert featuring all the bands playing a piece plus selected chamber groups.  The results will be announced along with adjudicator’s comments. SUMMARY:Strum Strike and Blow 2019
DESCRIPTION:Strum\, Strike and Blow is an exciting amalgamation of the ChCh Marimba Festival and ChCh Uke Fest which will feature over 1000  students from over 40 schools playing marimbas\, ukuleles and recorders in the Horncastle Arena.
