SUMMARY:ONZA BoP Music Education PD Day Tauranga
DESCRIPTION:Music Education day in the Bay Of Plenty!!!\nSuitable for teachers\, music teachers\, itinerant teachers.\nParticularly for Primary educators / ECE / Early High School. \nThis workshop will offer a day of music-making\, involving the voice\, movement and classroom instruments which acknowledges the bi-cultural identity of Aotearoa\, New Zealand. Participants will take away new skills\, new understandings\, some exciting new material\, and have the confidence to make theirs a more musical classroom. \nPresenters\nDr. Millie Locke\nwill demonstrate approaches fully applicable in the modern classroom to enhance music and literacy with young children. Using a thematic approach she will use story to fully engage every child\, and encourage them to use their unique voice in artistic and holistic learning experiences. Millie explored teaching as artistry in her Masters thesis and will inspire musicians and teachers alike in their craft. \nMaria Kappa\nhas many years’ experience in music education\, is Kodaly trained and has recently developed an interest in the Orff approach. Maria has merged her understandings of Kodaly\, Orff and Te Reo Māori to create a collection of musical experiences and songs that are enjoyable and transferrable to the classroom context. \nJeremy Hantler\nis a percussion specialist and will share ways to make marimbas and xylophones come alive in your teaching. It is time to pull the barred instruments out of storage in your school and see the world of joy these can unlock in your students.
