SUMMARY:Christchurch Big Band Jazz Festival
DESCRIPTION:For five days the city comes alive with swinging horns\, street performances\, parades\, concerts\, workshops and dancing\, as thousands of people gather to enjoy one of Christchurch’s most vibrant musical celebrations. \nRunning since 2006\, the festival brings together community bands\, school jazz bands\, CYJO (Chch Youth Jazz Orchestra)\, students and professional musicians from across New Zealand for a joyful celebration of the Big Band sound. From classic swing and jazz standards to modern funk and pop\, the music spills into the streets\, parks\, venues\, and public spaces of the city. \nWith over 60 performances by more than 500 musicians in 20+ bands\, most of them free and happening throughout the CBD\, the festival invites everyone to experience the energy of live music — whether you’re dancing\, discovering jazz for the first time\, or simply enjoying the atmosphere. \nBand info\, workshops\, performance schedule and and tickets (for the ticketed events) can all be found at chchbigbandfest.com \nNote the schedule \n

DESCRIPTION:Register here for the Wellington Orchestra Festival!\nA one-day musical festival for Wellington primary school students (up to Year 8) \nTuesday 27th October\, 2025\nArrive from 9am\nRehearsals start 9.30am\,\nconcert from 4 – 5pm  \nConducted by Mike Ashton\, with arrangements by Richard Owsin \nVenue:\nChilton St James School\n124 Waterloo Road\nLower Hutt 5010\nEvent Fee(s)\nMENZA Members $100 per group\nNon-MENZA Members (includes 1 year MENZA membership) $130\n(both prices are including GST)\nOnce attendance is confirmed\, ensembles will be invoiced to the email address provided in the registration form. \nSign up to get members of Orchestra Wellington come to your school! Through their Education in Schools programme\, you can have extra support preparing the WOF repertoire with professional musicians. Registered schools can contact Elliot Vaughan\, Engagement Coordinator for Orchestra Wellington to arrange this for your school. \nPlease note that participation in WOF 2026 grants permission for any photography made by MENZA and contributing partners at the event to be used for editorial\, marketing and educational purposes; in newsletters\, publications\, grant applications and reports; on MENZA sponsor websites\, and on social media. Photos will largely be of a group nature\, and individual permission will be sought before use if participants are to be individually identified in name\, photos or videos. \nSchools can use the above media disclaimer when creating the permission slips for their ākonga. Designed especially for students from Years 5 to 9\, this engaging concert will spark curiosity\, inspire creativity and create long-lasting musical memories.\n\nThis year’s show features a very special collaboration with Massive Theatre Company\, combining theatre and music in a powerful live performance of Symphonic Legends. Created by composer Peter Scholes and renowned playwright Witi Ihimaera\, this unique Aotearoa work weaves together four mythical stories\, performed by a cast of actors and accompanied by a sweeping\, cinematic orchestral score.\n\nCommissioned especially for Auckland Philharmonia\, this year’s performances mark 30 years since the work’s premiere — a rare opportunity to experience a beautiful and significant New Zealand story brought back to the stage by two outstanding Auckland arts organisations.\n\nFREE tickets are available to select schools based on their Equity Index Number.
