SUMMARY:The Art of Musical Play : A Summer Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Art of Musical Play : A Summer Workshop \nConducted by Julie Wylie and Art Therapist Isobel Mertel \nDate : Wednesday 20th January 2015 \nTime : 11.00am – 4.00pm \nVenue : Okuti Valley Hall\, Little River \nOther Information : Please bring a shared lunch \nCost : $80.00 \nFor Bookings or More Information Please Contact Clare Newton at events@juliewyliemusic.com or 0274626488 \nThis Summer workshop combining Art Therapy and Musical Play for parents\, teachers\, librarians and therapists will demonstrate how participants can develop a nurturing learning environment incorporating art and musical play. Such play supports daily routines and classroom learning in joyful ways that promote children’s pride in achievement. There will be an emphasis on understanding the keys to a child’s learning and how to develop calming\, regulating strategies that provide a nurturing learning environment for young children. \nWhen children learn about the elements of art and music and what\, why and how music and art works in relation to their own bodies\, artistic expression and musical play becomes a vital part of the child’s own form of communication. We develop a sense of self and self-expression through art and musical play. Art and musical play naturally builds healthy brain/body connections.\nPlay gives meaning to everyday tasks and activities. As they explore a range of sensory experiences children learn to think creatively\, to problem solve and to develop a love of learning. All children can develop strengths and talents through artistic musi-\ncal play. A nurturing playful environment is all-important to the development of creativity\, artistic expression\, musicality and\nholistic learning. Artistic musical play can underpin the whole curriculum. \nJulie Wylie \nMus.B (Hons. 1st class)\,B.A. A.T.C.L Dip Tchg. A.I.R.M.T.N.Z. SUMMARY:Playing With Songs
DESCRIPTION:Play-songs and games with music\, movement and play materials provide a wealth of opportunities for singing\, playing\, moving\, creating and learning. Extending these can widen experience in sensory awareness\, language\, listening\, visualisation and communication. The Orff approach to singing\, dancing and playing is multi-sensory\, active and creative\, and includes all players with their individual abilities and is therefore suitable for groups of mixed ability. Using various instruments\, movement\, voice as well as stimulating material not only goals in music and movement can be achieved but also in perception\, social learning and communication. This workshop will present a number of play-songs and their extensions primarily for children from 4 – 11 years (with and without disabilities) but adaptable for other ages and abilities. \nShirley Day Salmon studied Music at York University\, England (with John Paynter and others) and trained as an early years and primary teacher (PCGE\, London University). Since moving to Austria\, she has developed further expertise in music therapy\, sign language and inclusive education and acquired a masters in educational science (University of Innsbruck\, Austria). She has worked with many ages and abilities including deaf and hard of hearing; children in residential homes with behavioural problems; children and adults with and without disabilities in mainstream and more specialised contexts. She has taught at the Orff Institute\, Salzburg since 1984 and has been director of the postgraduate university course “ Advanced Studies in Music and Dance Education – Orff-Schulwerk” at the Orff Institute since 2006. She teaches on summer courses at the Orff Institute\, teaches and lectures nationally and internationally and has published books ( e.g. Hallo Children. A collection of songs and related activities for children aged 4 -9. Schott 2007) and numerous articles in journals. \nTickets are available at http://playing-with-songs.eventbrite.co.nz
