SUMMARY:NZ Jazz Workshops
DESCRIPTION:The premier event for young jazz musicians – come and spend a week in Wellington learning from some of the best jazz educators in New Zealand and guest artist John Riley \nThe New Zealand Jazz Foundation provides exceptional musical experiences to young jazz musicians in New Zealand. The National Jazz Workshops bring New Zealand’s enthusiastic jazz students together with top jazz musicians and educators\, working on instrument techniques\, improvisation\, theory\, listening and ensemble performances. \nStudents 19 and under with at least one year of experience on an instrument\, are eligible. \nFaculty for 2018 will include: Dave Lisik (coordinator\, theory\, improvisation)\, Rodger Fox (trombone and big band)\, Nick Granville (guitar)\, Lance Philip (drums) \nDirectors: Rodger Fox and Dr. David Lisik \nThe NZ Jazz Workshops will be held at the New Zealand School of Music\, Victoria University of Wellington. \nACCOMMODATION: students will be responsible for their own accommodation. \nMEALS: Lunch for the five days will be available for purchase at several locations on campus. A group dinner will be provided by the Jazz Foundation on Friday. \nVisit “Register” at  www.nzjazzfoundation.com to register online. Registrations will be accepted for the following instruments: trumpet\, trombone\, saxophone (specify: alto\, tenor\, bari)\, piano\, bass\, guitar\, drumset\, vibraphone\, clarinet\, flute\, voice. \nREGISTRATION: Applications are being accepted immediately and will be accepted until all places are filled. SUMMARY:ONZA 2018 Summer Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This movement/music workshop will offer participants the opportunity to engage with Māori legend/story using processes involving dance and music. Participants will explore ways of integrating the elements of dance from the NZ Curriculum with Maori dance movements associated with haka\, poi and waiata ringa. A range of contemporary NZ music will be used to inspire this dance work. \nPresenters\n\nLiz Melchior: Liz is dance lecturer in the School of Education at Victoria University of Wellington\, New Zealand\, where she teaches in early childhood and secondary initial teacher education programmes. An experienced primary school teacher\, Liz was a writer for the dance curriculum\, providing professional development programmes for teachers implementing dance in the classroom. In recognition of her services to dance in education\, Liz was recently awarded a life membership of the New Zealand Dance Subject Association (NZDSA) \n \nPriya Gain: Priya is currently completing a Masters of Education specialising in music and arts education at the University of Waikato. She teaches at Eastern Hutt School as music/movement specialist across the whole school. She has completed ONZA certificated training up to Level 4 in the Aotearoa/New Zealand context. She has a strong commitment to the development of local teaching resources which express the bicultural identity of this country.
