SUMMARY:Teachers' Professional Development Day in Auckland with Dr Robert McWilliams
DESCRIPTION:Friday May 17th \n10am – 4pm\nVenue: East Auckland – Please Contact education@musicworks.co.nz for the specific location. \nTopics include: \n“Strategies and materials for convincing stakeholders on the value of instrumental music learning”\nThis session will cover effective strategies and materials that are persuasive for students\, parents\, administrators\, etc. to support recruitment and retention in instrumental learning. Exciting new developments in research to support this will be shared and identified. \n“Choosing and preparing repertoire that will be rewarding for all – players\, conductors\, and audience” \nThis session will address choosing repertoire that provides the optimum means for developing musicianship and expressive playing. Suggested repertoire and reasons for inclusion will be covered. Effective methods for preparing and studying repertoire will also be addressed including how to study and mark scores to be ready for effective rehearsals. \n“Rehearsal strategies that build musicianship skills and develop your ensemble faster!”\nThis session will explore rehearsal strategies that are focused on getting the players’ ears more involved in the process so that they hear the issues needing to be addressed and can generate solutions that will transfer to other aspects of their playing. This approach develops musicianship significantly faster when applied consistently and results in more cohesive ensemble playing. \nPlease bring your instrument as at the latter part of the day for a short time\, Dr Mc Williams will run a basic “teacher ensemble” to discuss some of the concepts in preparation for the Saturday clinic. This will be a very relaxed and fun session. \nThank you to YAMAHA\, MusicWorks & ABODA for providing this Professional development at no cost\, and a big thanks to West City Youth Concert Band for being our training band on Saturday. \nHow to Register your Interest and more details: \nPlease RSVP to education@musicworks.co.nz with the following: \nFull Name: \nSchool you are associated with: \nRole (HOD\, Ensemble Director\, Itinerant etc: \nInstrument (please indicate if you would likely bring on the day):
