Music Miniatures for Y1 to 8 – win a $200 MusicWorks Voucher!
We know that time to teach music is often challenging to find, so we are on a mission to share miniature music lessons for students between Years 1 and 8 – activities up to ten minutes long that you can do with your students. A ten-minute lesson every day would be 50 minutes of music a week! Wow!
We’d love you to share a music activity for Year 1-8 students with us in video form (with accompanying notes if relevant). If we publish your activity on our website and/or social media accounts, you will go into the draw for one of three $200 MusicWorks vouchers, to be drawn on 5 May 2025. The closing date for entries is 30 April 2025.
When making your video, the following things are important:
- No more than 10 minutes long. Filming on your phone is fine. Alternatively, you could film your activity using Zoom/Microsoft Teams/Google Meet or suchlike.
- If you learnt the activity from someone else, please identify them so we can give credit where credit is due.
- The activity must have a clearly defined musical objective. Aligning with other curriculum areas is great too. We’d love to see Literacy and Numeracy links where appropriate!
- The resource is designed for students in Years 1 to 8.
- Individuals are responsible for ensuring that there are no students in the videos.
- Educational Fair Use restrictions apply to the use of copyrighted materials – up to 10% only. Please do not share/send materials that are copied from books or downloaded from paid resources such as Twinkl or Teachers Pay Teachers. This also includes recordings of popular songs. You are welcome to send links and recommendations that teachers can follow up.
When you send your video, please email it to admin@menza.co.nz (or via a drive link), and provide the following information:
- Contact name and email address
- Year levels/s the lesson is suitable for
- Curriculum link – what is the musical objective of the activity? Include any other relevant curriculum links too.
- Any accompanying resources like music scores/lyrics/chords
- Masters for any resources that are needed for the activity
Copyright for any original material sent to us will remain with the creator. However, by sending it to MENZA, you accept that the material will be going into a public forum to be used by other teachers for educational purposes.
