Applications are now open for the 2018 ASQ International Music Academy, which will take place from 23-28 July at St Andrew’s on The Terrace in Wellington. Participants can enrol for either the full six-day course, or a shorter version running Thursday to Saturday.
The ASQ Academy is ideal for student and adult non-professional string players and pianists of a minimum standard of Grade VI. A maximum of three pianists will be accepted, for the full course only. Participants receive chamber music and string orchestra coaching, take part in masterclasses, sectionals, informal concerts, social events, and the final concert on the Saturday evening. There will also be public lunchtime concerts for particpants and tutors.
Guest tutors are: pianist Emma Sayers (formerly lecturer at Massey University Conservatorium of Music and the New Zealand School of Music), violinist Donald Armstrong (NZSO Associate Concertmaster), cellist Ken Ichinose (NZSO Associate Principal Cello), double bassist Joan Perarnau Garriga (NZSO Principal Double Bass) and chamber music coach Brian Shillito (former NZSO Sub-Principal Viola).
