NZCBA Band weekend hosted by CSM Chch
Concert Band Weekends are for musicians of any age, playing level at grade 3 to 4 concert band music/grade 5 exams. Indulge in three days of music making with a musical director who is famous in New Zealand. Cost is kept to $60 which includes snacks. Each weekend starts on Friday at 7pm and ends on Sunday after a concert.
NZCBA Band Weekend 2019 Christchurch October 4-6
(This is in the middle weekend of the October school holidays)
Venue: Catholic Cathedral College Hall, 62 Ferry Road, Christchurch. This venue is walking distance to restaurants, accommodation and the city centre.
Who: Players of wind, brass, bass guitar and percussion are welcome to register. This weekend brings to together people of all ages from all over New Zealand who share a love of concert band music.
Playing level required: Concert Band Weekend is for players at grade 3 to 4 band music level eg about grade 5+ in exams. You’ll meet on Friday evening, rehearse throughout the weekend, share a dinner & brunch together, and present a concert at 5pm on Sunday evening. You’ll play music, meet new music friends, confirm friendships with old friends, and have a wonderful weekend working with our MD, Dr Helen Renaud.
Copies of music parts to be played during the weekend will be available on a google drive in early September for all those who have registered and paid.

Musical Director for Christchurch Band Weekend 2019
Helen Renaud—Conductor
Christchurch bassoonist, saxophonist and conductor, Helen Renaud has been the HOD of Music at Burnside High School, where she now works part time. She studied bassoon at the Wellington Conservatorium of Music, and Music History at Victoria University of Wellington, before receiving her teaching qualification. In 2009 she graduated with a Master’s in Music from the University of Melbourne, where she focussed on conducting. It was here that she was taught by the late Professor John Hopkins OBE, and Richard Gill OAM. In 2018 Helen graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Doctorate in Musical Arts, looking at rehearsal techniques for high school and youth ensembles. Dr Renaud was appointed as the Conductor of the UC Christchurch Youth Orchestra in 2016 and leads the UC CYO winds. She has led numerous wind bands at all levels.
