Playful Music Making

This workshop is for both generalist and specialist classroom music teachers In the workshop we will will explore a simple process beginning with a small building block such as a poem a chant, a patere or a song and demonstrate how we can provide opportunities for children to play with it and build on it through voice, body percussion, untuned and tuned percussion instruments. Lots of great ideas to take back and use in your classroom.

Celia Stewart has been involved in music education for many years as a primary and early childhood teacher, lecturer in Early Childhood at the Christchurch College of Education, primary music adviser in Canterbury with UC EdPlus at the University of Canterbury and National Facilitator in Primary Music for the Ministry of Education. She is Music Director at the Christchurch School of Music and also regularly facilitates workshops for teachers, works in schools as a specialist music teacher and manages music events. Celia is a flute and recorder player and has recently completed a Masters in Education specializing in the Orff Schulwerk approach to music education at Waikato University.
