So, you want to write songs for your tamariki? Cool! The goal of this workshop is to write and perform a song to the group. Don’t worry about the nerves – it’s normal! We will do some exercises to get into the mindset of a child, discuss what children like to hear in a song and why, talk about different types of children’s songs, the basics of song structure, to rhyme or not to rhyme, then brainstorm themes/topics and settle down to write.
Bring your instrument if you play, but it’s not necessary – we will mostly focus on lyrics and touch briefly on melody/chords. I’ll attempt to answer your questions and play some of my songs for you as examples. Then we can sit back and listen to what unfolds!
This is a 2-hour workshop and the last 1/2 hour will be performances.
