In this workshop, facilitated by Robyn McQueen, we will review some of the literature around musical agency and student agency in musical contexts, and consider how to apply this in responsive ways that are relevant in Aotearoa New Zealand. Themes to be considered include student identity and leadership, collaboration, formal and informal approaches, and repertoire. Examples of practice will be presented that demonstrate making connections between musical learning experiences and students’ lives and learning outside of music class. Time and numbers permitting, participants will be invited to converse about aspects of their own practice that enhance student agency in music lessons.
This workshop is free and you don’t have to be a MENZA member to join. Please register here for the ZOOM link.
