nextWAV. Artist development programme – apply by 19 July

nextWAV. is a 12-month artist development programme launched by Universal Music New Zealand (UMNZ) to mentor emerging young artists (ages 16–18) across Aotearoa. It provides hands-on industry experience, creative workshops, and mentorship from top music professionals.
Key Program Details
- Target Audience: Secondary-level students (ages 16 to 18) who are citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand.
- Selection: Up to 10 students are chosen to participate in the structured yearly intake.
- Cultural Diversity: The initiative actively reserves spots for students creating music in te reo Māori and those drawing on Pacific cultural expression.
- Workshops & Mentoring: Participants learn about songwriting, production, branding, live performance, and digital strategy.
- Partners: It is funded by NZ On Air and Creative New Zealand, with support from APRA AMCOS, Live Nation, and the New Zealand Music Commission.
